Description

This instructor-led, four-week, fully-online course explores time management strategies for online courses. It includes strategies for saving time during the design and development of the course, as well as useful techniques for saving time during the facilitation of the course. A final module on personal time management completes the course. The course has been designed to use the participants' time efficiently. However it should be noted that the course is highly interactive and collaborative which requires active and timely participation.

Goals

  • Apply time management skills through application of assignments.
  • Evaluate time savers for personal use through participation in asynchronous discussion.
  • Identify tools used in student-centered learning to best use facilitator time through providing feedback on module surveys.
  • Analyze time management skills through the development of a personal time management plan.

Objectives

Participants will use asynchronous discussion, and synchronous chat to:

  • Identify and apply time saving techniques used during the design and development phase of online courses
  • Develop a learning community through participation in asynchronous discussion
  • Share resources with the learning community to create synergy through sharing of FAQs
  • Experience the synergy created through effective collaborative in an asynchronous group project
  • Disseminate information related to effective time management through answering your assigned discussion question.
  • Demonstrate application of effective time management through the creation of a personal management plan
  • Support the learning community by reviewing suggestions and techniques in this course in your summation

The course is four weeks in length and requires an online orientation.

Requirements

  • Complete the online course orientation prior to the start of Module 1 of the course
  • Answer weekly discussion questions related to the assigned articles
  • Complete weekly surveys
  • Work with other participants in a group project
  • Create a personal management plan

Delivery

The course is divided into content modules that will be released according to the course calendar. The orientation should be completed first. All modules include readings, assignments, and a feedback survey. Assessment Tools include access to Surveys, Rubrics, and Grades. Communication Tools include access to the Calendar, Discussion Forums, Email, and synchronous Chat rooms.

Workload

Participants are expected to be active in the course. Synergy requires everyone to contribute so the sum of knowledge and application exceeds the sum of the individual members. Expect to to devote at least 10 hours a week for 4 weeks to this course, and log in at least 4 different days a week and possibly more often during the group project.

Fees

A charge is incurred for anyone enrolled in an Advanced Online Seminar, although there is a discount for ION members. The tuition is determined by the number of contact hours and online discussion requirements for the course. Taking a course for Graduate Credit through the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS):
All of our courses except the Advanced Online Seminars may be taken for graduate courses through UIS. You do not pay twice if you choose this route. You pay only the fees associated with UIS enrollment. If you choose to enroll through UIS, you need to follow the instructions. You do not register through this site.
