Course Policies

Participation
MVCR courses require approximately 8-10 hours per week for completion of assignments. This time is mainly spent reading online materials, communicating with colleagues via e-mail and course forums, and completing projects. Inability to meet this time requirement will reduce a participant's ability to receive the maximum benefit from the course, or, in some cases, to complete and receive credit for the course. See grading below.

Courses in the MVCR program require that a student login to the course at least 2-3 times per week as well, as outlined in that particular course syllabus. Failure to meet this minimum requirement can result in a reduction of grade. All credit options in MVCR courses will grade participation. Such grading is usually heavily weighted towards an active participation requirement.

MVCR courses cannot be audited. Participation is a requirement in all courses.

Only two MVCR courses may be concurrently enrolled in unless permission is obtained from ION at mvcr-registration@uillinois.edu.

Academic Integrity

ION/MVCR faculty are guided by the University of Illinois Student Code.

Grading
Participants taking MVCR courses through the Illinois Online Network for Continuing Education Units receive grades. In addition, to receive CEU credit, participants must complete all assignments at 80% proficiency or above.

All students taking MVCR courses for academic credit through the University of Illinois will receive a grade for all assignments and the course. Grades in all MVCR courses include both formative assessments including participation and timeliness, as well as summative assessments on all assignments and projects. While some courses have exams, all of our courses have discussion and projects as the main graded components. Every course will furthermore provide rubrics for main assignments to assist students in their completion; however, final grades are up to the discretion of the instructor. They may adjust rubrics and grades as the course requires. If you have a problem with grading or wish to discuss a grade with an administrator, please contact Scott Johnson at sbjhnsn@uillinois.edu.

Participation and Grading
You are absolutely required to log into your course(s) at least once per week
. Failure to login at least once per week without prior notification of the instructor will result in removal from the course. You will only be able to return to the course after contacting the instructor and getting his/her approval for re-entry. Your grade during such circumstances will likely diminish.

If you are removed from a course for any reason during the first half of the course, a "withdrawn" is entered into the student record. If you are removed from a course after the halfway mark, a grade is entered based upon your current progress in the course. If you are taking the course for academic credit through the University of Illinois at Springfield, you must additionally officially withdraw through the University or a grade of F may be recorded. All students removed from a course by an instructor or an administrator for reasons such as lack of participation may request re-entry into a course by contacting the instructor. Re-entry is at the discretion of the instructor, although you may appeal the decision by contacting mvcr-registration@uillinois.edu.

Behavior
To be consistent with the University Code of Conduct practice of Respect, we consider hateful, flaming, and person-directed derogatory comments to be unacceptable behavior in MVCR courses. Parties involved in such behavior may be immediately removed from the course at the discretion of the instructor. Depending on the nature of the incident, the individual may be barred from future participation in MVCR courses at the discretion of the MVCR staff. This determination is made on a case-by-case basis and ION and MVCR reserve the right to change our policy at any given time without prior notification.
